Taylor A. Lewis, M.D. and Cleveland Hurst III Endowed Scholarship
The Wayne State University Alumni Association (WSUAA) selects recipients for the Lewis/Hurst private endowed scholarship, established in honor of Taylor Lewis, a past WSUAA president, and Hurst, a former WSUAA board member.
βI returned in 2022 to complete my undergraduate degree in Mathematics, and I graduated in Winter 2025. I worked extra hours at my job to pay off my college expenses on my own. The Taylor A. Lewis, M.D. and Cleveland Hurst III Endowed Scholarship reduced the financial hurdle of completing my degree and entering my new career path. I would like to again thank you for your kindness and support. In turn of receiving this scholarship, I hope to assist those who are in need just as you have done for me.β Tameka Spencer, Mathematics
Trauma happens. Health issues happen. Job loss happens. When college is postponed, it takes extra motivation to start. Thatβs where this scholarship steps in, helping students begin or finish their degree when life experiences cause a higher education gap. On top of that, every student has demonstrated financial need.
Your gift of any amount will lift these students who, like many of you, through force of will and a fierce desire for education, overcame multiple obstacles to attend Wayne State.
