The study of languages offers students vibrant opportunities to encounter worlds beyond Detroit. Providing instruction in 15 languages, our goal is to help students learn to think critically about the globalized world and to see it through many cultural, historical and political lenses.

• Gifts supporting the Classical and Modern Languages, Literature, and Cultures Annual Fund help provide department-specific resources for students to become true global citizens, through the study of languages and cultures; expanding the department’s ability to support a wide range of College to Career and educational opportunities, including awards for student travel to professional conferences, internships, departmental events and programs, funding for student and faculty research, and more.
• Contributions to the Blanche Goodell Scholarship directly impact students by helping to make education accessible – keeping the department competitive with peers and ensuring that students have the financial support they need to complete their educational pursuits. A language degree prepares students to communicate with people worldwide and gain the skills to understand other cultures in our increasingly global society. This fund helps provide scholarships to deserving students pursuing a course of study in any of the language concentrations we offer.
