Music Scholarships Fund
Your donation to the Music Scholarships Fund helps cover tuition for students enrolled in Wayne Stateโs Music Program -- in particular, students who are returning to finish their degree as well as students who are at Wayne State a semester or two longer than their financial aid covers.
One example of a student receiving support from donors like you is David Steele. David had to stop attending school a while ago to attend to some personal issues. He has now returned, and the department used some of these scholarship funds to help him complete the classes he missed. Another student, Erinn Whitsett, faced a similar situation as David. She will return to complete her degree this fall after an extended period of being away from Wayne State. The department will use funds from the Music Scholarships Fund to help her complete the last leg of her studies and get her degree in December.
There is so much to celebrate in Wayne Stateโs Music Program, and we are so grateful for donors like you who helped close the gap and make things a little easier for students eager to perfect their craft. Just in the last year, the Music Department facilitated Guitar Day, Brass Day, Vocal Workshop, Honors Band, Honors Orchestra, and Saxophone Day. In addition to all of the departmentโs usual performances, the Choral Ensembles, Wind Symphony, Orchestra, and Jazz Band will be featured in a Tribute to Detroit Concert at Orchestra Hall on April 15. Outside of regular classes, several students attended conferences including the Midwest Music Conference in Chicago and the Michigan Music Conference in Grand Rapids. This summer, the department will continue to offer transformational classes like the choral composing workshop, piano camp, J Dilla workshop for music educators, J.C. Heard Jazz Week @ Wayne, Orff music teaching workshop, and Jump Start program for incoming freshmen. A number of students will attend various music and workshop camps outside of Wayne State including the National Association of Negro Musicians.
We are looking to continue to support students' educational activities as well as help students who need financial assistance in completing their degrees. The Music Scholarships Fund is integral to student success.
