Business and Technology Division
The Business and Technology Division is one of six academic divisions at Volunteer State Community College and home to some of the college’s most popular programs, with more than 1,500 students majoring in one of our 18 programs. Options include an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Business for starting or advancing a career and an Associate of Science – Tennessee Transfer Pathway (A.S. – TTP) degree for transferring directly to one of Tennessee’s four-year universities.
The division also offers four technical certificates that can be earned in just one or two semesters for a rapid path to the workforce. Courses required for the “embedded” technical certificates all count toward an A.A.S. degree, allowing students to “stack” their credentials.
Courses are taught at campuses in Gallatin, Springfield, Cookeville, and Livingston. Most are also available online or in hybrid format.
Departments and Faculty
The division consists of two academic units, the Business Department and the Computer Information Technology (CIT) Department. The division is home to 17 full-time faculty members and an equal number of adjuncts. The average, full-time faculty member has a master’s degree, more than a decade of industry experience, and even more time as a college instructor. Full-time faculty teach, design and update courses, advise students, and help shape college policies and programs. Most adjunct faculty hold full-time jobs outside of education and provide valuable insights on current business practices, job market trends, and cutting-edge technologies. Advisors help students select programs most appropriate for their goals. Advisors also help students navigate key college processes, find support when it’s needed, and transition to work or a follow-on university.
