With the growing popularity of cycling in the United States, more people than ever are coming to campus with their bikes, or renting bikes to commute around campus. Due to this influx of riders, the Cycling Club at USU has grown rapidly, beyond just a team that travels to collegiate road and mountain bike races, and into a team that promotes bicycle skills, knowledge, and safety to all who ride.
Our team consists of riders of every level on all types of bikes. We have cross-country mountain bikers who’ve raced and won NICA state championships and podiumed at collegiate nationals. Downhill racers who’ve won national championships. Road racers who’ve raced in junior and collegiate nationals. Gravel racers and bikepackers who’ve completed epic races and journeys. But the best part is, that no previous experience is required, and anyone with a bike can join our weekly group rides, skill camps, and team-building events.
Our goal for this fundraiser is to fund the cycling team’s growing aspirations. This will include fostering relationships with local high schools and putting on education and skill events. These funds will also help cover travel, registration, and equipment for collegiate races in Utah and Colorado, and help those who qualify for nationals. With enough funding, we could even put on our own races in and around Cache Valley. The main goal for our team is to provide a place for USU students to ride and race bikes in an educational and welcoming environment, and any donation will help further this goal.
