Did you hear—the oldest whitebark pine in the world was just found by University of Wyoming student, Jared Friedman! Your gift will help our team continue helping this threatened tree species while preparing the next generation of land stewards and forest scientists.
You talked and we listened—after meeting with stakeholders and land managers across the state, threatened and endangered species emerged as a shared priority. Whitebark pine forests support many of Wyoming's threatened wildlife, including grizzly bears, but these forests need your help.
This year, we are raising funds for student-led whitebark pine restoration. With $3,000, we can support summer travel for six students to visit whitebark restoration sites, measure seedling growth and survival, and help solve one of the largest challenges to high-elevation forest conservation of our time. An additional $2,500 provides per diem support for students as they carry field equipment deep into the backcountry for restoration monitoring. These hands-on student learning opportunities facilitate whitebark forest recovery following record-breaking forest dieback across Wyoming.
The Wyoming Forest Resilience Initiative (WyFRI) is dedicated to supporting the health and sustainability of Wyoming's forest resources through undergraduate and graduate education, collaborative partnerships, and applied science. WyFRI facilitates the land-grant mission by bringing practical science to stakeholders and providing training opportunities for the next generation of land managers.
Thank you in advance for supporting Wyoming's forest landscapes and the students who are leading the charge to keep them healthy!
