Please support the important legacy of Lucinda Phillips, who was a slave until she and her family came west from Kentucky in the late 1860s on one of the first trains to Cheyenne. She grew one of the cityās first gardens, bought and sold property, was an active member of the community, and helped to build the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
We are establishing an endowed faculty fellowship, the Lucinda āLucyā Phillips Fellow. We are dedicated to sharing her story and to establishing opportunities for junior faculty members to share their expertise as part of the Honors College, the Gender and Women Studies Program, the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, and the Department of Theatre and Dance. In fall 2025, we will use some of this support for the play based on the legacy of Lucinda Phillips written by Dr. Camellia Okpodu called Faith of Our Mothers.
