When people grab their most valuable possessions, photographs are understandably at the top of the list. They are a record of our existence—evidence that those in front of the lens matter. Those behind the lens also matter.
Telling stories with a camera offers universal appeal to students from varied backgrounds, regardless of their academic focus. In the past few years, aspiring UW photographers from majors across campus have documented what matters most to them. The Bobby Model Photojournalism Professorship and the Larsh Bristol Photojournalism Fellowship provide students an opportunity to shine a light on individuals, issues, and subjects that may otherwise go unnoticed.
Your gift on Giving Day helps fund camera equipment, computers, photo editing software, printing supplies, exhibit expenses, conferences, and funding for documentary-based travel. Most immediately, we are looking to renovate a space on campus to serve as a formal studio, along with an accompanying exhibit area to display student work.
Please support UW students so that they can pursue their photography passions while contributing to the collective mission of telling stories about who they are—and who we are. Thank you!
