Campus Connections at UW offers on-campus mentor opportunities for Albany County youth who have experienced adverse childhood events, substance use, and mental health challenges.
Wyoming has the highest suicide rates in the United States, with rates for adolescents increasing in the last decade. Compared to national averages, rates of adverse childhood events in Wyoming youth are alarmingly high, with 60% of youth experiencing two or more emotional and behavioral problems. These youth need more caring mentors around them, and Campus Connections is an evidence-based program at UW working to do just that!
Campus Connections works to build resilience for these youth through strengthening social bonds, increasing academic performance, decreasing substance use and delinquency, and improving mental health. We pair youth with UW undergraduate mentors enrolled in a service-learning class. These mentors are able to become highly skilled civically engaged community leaders. In addition, universities with Campus Connections programs have higher retention rates for those undergrad mentors.
Your support helps fund these efforts to help youth and undergraduates in our community on our campus. Thank you!
