The Student Art League is an all-inclusive and welcoming group of student members who support individual artmaking, group learning activities, and service to the Visual Arts Department and the UW campus at large.
The Student Art League organizes events such as Croquis, weekly extra-curricular figure drawing sessions for students; the Salon des Refuses, an exhibition of the work not selected for the annual Juried Student Exhibition; the annual 4x4 Silent Art Auction; and the UW Art Alumni Speaker Series. In addition, the Student Art League maintains and supports the SALivation Station, one of UWās inaugural student food-sharing cabinets. Located in the Visual Arts Building, the aim of the station is to address issues of food insecurity so that students can get assistance with dignity and without the fear of stigma.
Travel is one of the most important aspects of the Student Art League experience and the main goal of the Giving Day campaign. Past trips include visits to arts venues across the Front Range including the Denver Art Museum, Redline Contemporary Art Center, the William Havu Gallery, Artworks Contemporary Art Center, Meow Wolf, the Nicolaysen Art Museum, the Whitney Center for the Arts, and mini-residencies at the Neltje Center for Excellence in the Creative Arts.
The Student Art League was also able to travel to New York City in 2020 and 2023 to attend the historic Armory Show and other art fairs including VOLTA and Spring Break. Students had studio visits with artists and professionals including Sharon Louden and Dustin Yellin in addition to visiting the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, and many other venerable institutions.
Student Art League looks forward to being able to include student members in more travel opportunities including another visit to New York City, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and other front range arts venues. Thank you for supporting us!
