Now in its 24th year, the Summer Vocology Institute (SVI) has built a global reputation for providing world-class continuing education to voice teachers, professional voice users, laryngologists, and speech pathologists. For many participants, success in SVI’s intensive, in-person program becomes a defining factor in applications for clinical fellowships and future clinical, academic, or research positions.
Attending SVI is a significant commitment. Many mid-career professionals must put clinical and studio work on hold for seven weeks, often at considerable financial sacrifice. This summer, we are welcoming aspiring vocologists from the U.S., South America, Europe, and Asia, many of whom face additional challenges as fluctuating exchange rates and visa costs—often exceeding $550—add uncertainty to an already demanding investment. Despite these obstacles, they remain deeply committed to realizing their goal of becoming SVI-Recognized Vocologists.
That commitment pays off. More than 500 SVI graduates are now making meaningful contributions across the fields of vocology, speech-language pathology, laryngology, biomechanics, and voice pedagogy. They continue to receive national and international recognition for their teaching and research, and their publications are helping to shape the future of voice science worldwide.
Gifts to the SVI Access Scholarship Fund help ease the burden of tuition for both U.S.-based and international students, ensuring that financial barriers do not stand in the way of talent and dedication. Over the past four years, the fund has awarded more than $15,000 in financial aid to exceptional scholars. With your support, we can continue to expand access to this life- and career-changing educational opportunity.
