The University of Utah School of Dentistry is dedicated to providing exemplary dental care while nurturing a commitment to service. Our mission is to promote health equity and improve the quality of life for our communities through compassionate care, innovative education, and groundbreaking research.

Giving Day is a pivotal moment for philanthropy at our school, enabling us to extend our reach and impact. This year, for the University's 175th anniversary, we are raising funds for a few critical initiatives.

The first is the Pediatric Oral Health Assistance Program (OHAP), which ensures comprehensive dental care for children in need. Pediatric OHAP sees patients 18 and under as well as seniors in high school who may have already turned 19. Funding for this program relies entirely on private philanthropy—that's where you come in! Every single dollar of your contribution goes directly towards patient care. In just half a year, from July 2024 to January 2025, we have spent $37,193. With an average patient cost of $226.79, we've performed 506 procedures and treated 164 patients. Imagine the impact we can make with your support!

The second is the Tooth Fairy Scholarship, supporting students who aspire to make a difference in the field of dentistry. With 13 endowed scholarships and 7 annual ones, we are striving to support our 200 dental students—but what we currently have is not enough. By donating to scholarships, you are investing in a brighter, healthier future for all of us.

The third is option is the School of Dentistry Unrestricted Fund. With Medicaid funding uncertain, your philanthropic contributions can make a crucial difference. Without Medicaid, 48% of our patients will lose access to care, and without patients, we can't educate our students. It's a cyclical challenge. By donating to our unrestricted fund, you enable us to address the most pressing needs in our community.

In celebration of our 175th anniversary, we're aiming to reach 175 donors. Additionally, thanks to a generous donation by Dean Rory Hume, every dollar you contribute will be doubled—up to $10,000. Your donation today will have twice the impact.

Not only that, but every little bit helps! If every faculty member, staff, student, and alumni donated just $10.75, we would reach—or even exceed—our goal. We can make a big difference with small contributions.
