About

In 2023, over 107,000 lives were lost to drug overdoses in the U.S., with nearly 70% of those deaths linked to opioids like fentanyl (DEA.gov). Here in Utah, the crisis is just as devastating—an average of 51 Utahns died from a drug overdose every month in 2023 (opidemic.utah.gov).

To combat this growing epidemic, the University of Utah’s Program for Addiction Research, Clinical Care, Knowledge, and Advocacy (PARCKA) is leading the charge in addiction research, clinical care, education, and community advocacy.

Addiction affects us all, yet many individuals, families, and communities lack the resources and knowledge to provide the treatment and support needed. By working together, we can expand access to education, treatment, and life-saving interventions—turning the tide on this crisis.

By donating, you will directly support:

· Patient Care at the SPARC Clinic – The Supporting Patients through Access, Resources, and Quality Care (SPARC) Clinic at the Sugarhouse Health Center provides comprehensive substance use disorder treatment alongside full-spectrum primary care. Each year, the clinic welcomes an average of 120 new patients, offering them the care and support they need to begin their recovery journey.

· Education & Community Initiatives – Your contribution would help fund 12 annual educational seminars, Motivational Interviewing Trainings, and program evaluations for local treatment centers—expanding PARCKA’s reach and impact within our community.

· The 2026 Addiction Health Services Research Conference – Your support will help bring together national researchers, policymakers, and treatment providers in

Salt Lake City to tackle the most pressing issues in addiction care, including inequity, access, effectiveness, and implementation of services.

With your generous support, we can improve lives, strengthen communities, and advance addiction treatment and education. This Giving Day, Support PARCKA and Let’s Recover Together!
