The University of St. Thomas volleyball team closed out its season with 20 victories for the first time officially competing at the NCAA Division III level. Throughout the season, the Celts earned some key wins to get them to this point. In the midst of a ten-game win streak at the beginning of the season, the Celts upset nationally ranked powerhouse Mary Hardin Baylor, then qualified for the conference tournament for the third year in a row by upsetting higher seeds, Southwestern University and Austin College. When all was said and done, the Celts finished with seven Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) victories, their highest since joining the league.
Adding to the list of accomplishments, several players were recognized for their talents on the court:
- Nine players made the SCAC Student-Athlete Honor Roll and the overall team GPA was 3.3 for the Fall
- Senior Paige Havel earned both SCAC offensive and defensive Player of the Week honors (the only student-athlete to do so). She recorded a team-high 341.5 total points and notched 139 total blocks, ranking her second in blocks per set for the entire NCAA Division III.
- Freshman Audrey Cataline led the team in kills posting 232 in the season. She led the entire SCAC with .60 service aces per set.
- The team as a whole scored 206 points from service aces and lead the league in limiting opponents to just a .113 hitting percentage.
Training and practice is underway as the volleyball team prepares to come out strong for their Fall 2023 season. And you can help play a part in that success! The Celts were invited to compete at a tournament in California among some of the top teams in the nation, including the defending national champions. Through your support, we can accept the invitation to the tournament in California, and participate in other top-tier competitions that will help position our team as a force in the SCAC.
