“It’s not just going to take the team; it’s going to take the whole University community to help really get this thing off the ground.”
– Clayton VanderLaan, Head Coach, UST Men’s Baseball
In the spring of 2020, after a more than 50-year hiatus, a UST varsity baseball team will take the field at the University of St. Thomas once again. Recruitment is under way and ____ students have already been signed to play in the inaugural season. In preparation for this historic new era of growth at UST, we are working hard to ensure that our student-athletes are equipped with proper resources and a supportive environment to develop to their full academic and athletic potential.
UST currently lacks an on-campus field and training facilities, so our athletes will practice at St. Thomas High School, a 20-minute drive from the UST campus. In order to build a competitive baseball team, our players must constantly tune and improve the mechanics of their swing. This cannot be achieved simply through daily practice on a field. Our players need a batting practice facility on the UST campus where they can more easily balance their schoolwork and training time. A covered, well-lit batting complex on campus will give players year-round accessibility and the flexibility to practice before and between classes, at night and on rainy days. Your gift will make an impact on our student-athletes far beyond the 2020 season; it will help UST student-athletes in our baseball program for years to come.
