Book Club

The mission of Book Club is to make reading outside academia more approachable and accessible for all students by collectively choosing monthly books to read and providing a safe space to critically discuss them and the different perspectives they provide. Book Club challenges students to explore diverse narratives and voices while aiming to create a supportive community of readers who are conscientious of the social issues present in the community.

We are seeking funding to take our club members to see "John Proctor is the Villain," which challenges the classic play "The Crucible." JPITV reconsiders the Crucible's conflict and its portrayal of women, putting it in a modern context. Our club members hope to read the original text, watch the play and discuss the nuances between the two.

"I joined Book Club my freshman year in hopes of finding a community. I really struggled early on in the transition to college because I have a hard time putting myself out there. I knew that reading was my favorite activity and that I loved discussing all kinds of books. Joining the club was certainly intimidating, but I eventually fell in love with the community of readers and the open-minded discussions we always had. Two years later, I still get excited for the conversations we have at every meeting! Thank you for making a gift to support this club!"
