American Culture and Difference

For almost 20 years, the American Culture and Difference program has put the vast richness of American cultures at the center of conversations at the University of St. Thomas. Our students have taken an active role in leading these conversations and helped create a dynamic climate of inclusivity on campus. Our academic work, guided by a committed faculty from across a dozen departments, focuses on a re-examination of representations of mainstream American culture and an analysis of the creative production of oppositional cultures, highlighting the experiences of historically marginalized communities. Through deep engagement with these subjects, our students enter the world as well-qualified, highly sought-after professionals—equipped with the critical skills needed to foster and promote civic participation and creative dialogue within their communities. Thank you for supporting student scholarships, research collaboration between faculty and students, events featuring nationally recognized guest speakers, and student conference travel!
