At the University of St. Thomas, our international students bring the world to our doorstep—sharing diverse perspectives, enriching our classrooms, and building lifelong connections. Today, many of these students face unexpected and heartbreaking challenges that threaten their ability to complete their education.

Some come from countries currently experiencing war, civil unrest, or political instability. Others have families devastated by natural disasters—earthquakes, hurricanes, and tsunamis. These crises not only disrupt lives back home but also severely impact students’ financial ability to stay enrolled.

Unlike U.S. citizens, international students have limited access to financial resources. They cannot take out traditional bank loans without a U.S. co-sponsor, and their visas restrict employment opportunities—especially in their first year. Despite their talent, dedication, and resilience, some have had no choice but to leave St. Thomas due to circumstances entirely beyond their control.
When an international student is forced to leave, our entire community loses. We lose their voice, their story, and the promise of what they will one day contribute to the world.
