As new veterans navigate the transition to civilian life, college is often the place where this transition begins. A campus veteran center offers a safe place for student-veterans to find the resources they need to succeed. The Karon Veterans Resource Center (Karon VRC) is this place. The center affords veterans the opportunity to meet fellow student-veterans and share their experiences with those who have or are going through a similar experience. For some, the Karon VRC is simply a safe place to share a cup of coffee. For others, it is the only place they feel comfortable asking for help with everything from their course schedule to PTSD and other service-related challenges. Since many student-veterans are commuters, this designated space also serves as a place to get work done, socialize and use time productively between classes. Moreover, the Karon VRC enhances a veteran’s sense of belonging within the university.
