Gifts to Urban Art Mapping contribute to...
Urban Art Mapping is an interdisciplinary research team of College of Arts and Sciences students and faculty who document, map and archive images of street art. As the founders of the George Floyd and Anti-Racist Street Art Archive, the largest archive of images of street art related to the murder of George Floyd and the civil unrest that followed, our team continues to engage street art as an important artistic expression from marginalized people and groups. Launched in 2018, Urban Art Mapping has engaged the public to educate people about street art and why we should pay attention to it. Street art offers often overlooked commentary on some of the most challenging issues we face today, such as systemic racism, global health, climate change and gentrification.
Funding provides support for ongoing additions to and maintenance of our multiple street art digital archives, including the George Floyd and Anti-Racist Street Art Archive and the COVID-19 Street Art Archive, in addition to ongoing collaborative fieldwork documenting street art and interviewing street artists, community members and other stakeholders.
