1 in 4 First-Year Tommies are first-generation college students! We define first-generation students as students who do not have a parent who graduated with a four-year degree. In 2021, St. Thomas received the First-Gen Forward designation through the Center for First-Generation Student Success (NASPA). This designation and our institutional efforts align with the priorities of St. Thomas 2025 to grow a more diverse student body and reduce the equity gaps that exist. The Proud to Be First program recognizes the richness of identities, strengths and cultural capital that our first-generation students bring to the University of St. Thomas. Our program supports first-generation students through community-building and key events such as Navigating the Hidden Curriculum, First-Generation College Celebration Week (Nov. 6-10), First-Generation Graduation Pinning event and numerous educational programs throughout the year. Your generosity will have an impact not only on the lives of our students but could change the trajectory of generations to come.
