Strong Girls U is a 6-week long in-person program that connects elementary school girls in the community with Collegiate Student-Athletes to promote physical activity, foster mindfulness, and reduce the dropout rate of girls in sports. A study found that girls drop out of sports at twice the rate of boys by age 14 (Sabo & Veliz, 2008).
“Strong bodies, kind hearts, and unstoppable minds” are the three pillars of the Strong Girl United Foundation; a local non-profit organization that has grown a following nationwide. The University of Miami, Bowdoin College, Boston University, and Union College are among the list of institutions currently giving back to their community by empowering girls with this research-based program.
With your generosity, we can bring Strong Girls U to the University of Southern Maine and make a positive impact on the young girls of Gorham! The $2,000 fund covers the cost of athlete leadership training, program coaching support, lesson plans, as well as books, shirts, and swag for all participants. We greatly appreciate your support and look forward to “empowering girls for life”!
