USA Giving Day, February 14, is a 24- hour period when the entire University of South Alabama community rallies together to show its love for the University and USA Health. On USA Giving Day alumni, faculty and friends are asked to make a gift to USA and to collectively make an impact by investing in scholarships, strengthening USA athletic programs and supporting critical USA Health initiatives.

Established in 2013 through the generosity of Abraham A. Mitchell, the Mitchell-Moulton Scholarship Initiative matches all gifts to endowed undergraduate scholarships dollar-for-dollar. For 24-hours on February 14, 2020, the MMSI will match all gifts to endowed undergraduate scholarships two to one! Bridge Program at USA Health Children's & Women's Hospital - $5,000 match
The Bridge Program supports pregnant patients diagnosed with fetal anomalies, which are conditions that affect a fetus or embryo and may be fatal or cause ongoing health issues after birth. There is a growing need for the services the Bridge Program offers, but not enough funding to keep up. Expenses include purchasing specialized equipment and educational literature, as well as covering the cost of grief counseling, funeral expenses and food and resources for support groups. Thanks to the generosity of one of our supporters, all gifts made to the Bridge Program on February 14, 2020 will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $5,000.
Bridging the Gap - $25,000 match
More than 60% of USA students are considered need-based under University and federal standards. Often, these students have no lifeline to call when life throws them the unexpected. Each semester hundreds of qualified students are dropped from their classes for lack of payment. The Bridging the Gap program provides emergency funding to allow students who want to receive their degrees the opportunity to stay enrolled.
Childrenโs Miracle Network Dance Marathon benefiting USA Health Childrenโs & Womenโs Hospital - $1,000 match
Miracle Network Dance Marathon is a movement benefiting Childrenโs Miracle Network Hospitals, a non-profit organization that raises funds and awareness for more than 170 pediatric hospitals across North America. All gifts to the Childrenโs Miracle Network Dance Marathon made on Giving Day will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $1,000, thanks to a generous gift from Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Department of Music Steinway Initiative - $2,000 match
Steinway Schools demonstrate a commitment to excellence by providing their students and faculties with the best equipment possible. Through a gift from Dr. Laura Moore, when you designate your donation to the Department of Music Steinway Initiative on February 14, 2020, your contribution will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $2,000.
Dr. David Nelson Scholarship in Biology โ Challenge gift
On February 14, 2020, Dr. Kit Outlaw is challenging a minimum of 10 USA alumni from the department of biology to give $100 each to the Dr. David Nelson Scholarship in biology. Dr. David Nelson, emeritus professor of biology, began teaching at South in 1977. During his tenure, Dr. Nelson has made an impact on the lives of his students and helped them to find direction after college. The recipient of this scholarship is a rising junior or senior with a passion for learning and a great enthusiasm for biology.
Jaguar Marching Band - $10,000 match
For more than a decade, the Jaguar Marching Band has provided the soundtrack for South Alabama student and fan experiences. On February 14, your contribution to the JMB will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000.
Jewish Studies Study Abroad in Germany - $2,500 match
Through a generous matching gift from Mrs. Arlene Mitchell, a USA Jewish and Holocaust Studies student will have the life-changing opportunity to study in Germany this summer. Each donation made to this scholarship on Giving Day will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $2,500.
School of Computing - $125,000 match
On USA Giving Day, your gift to the School of Computing Graduate School will be matched dollar-for-dollar through the generosity of Warren and Kathy Nicholson, up to $125,000.
South CARES - $688 match
More than 50% of USA students exhibit unmet needs each semester. South CARES (Collaborative Access, Resources and Emergency Support) provides access to emergency grants and scholarships to students experiencing financial setbacks that put them at risk of dropping out. The Student Assistance fund provides limited financial assistance and resources to currently enrolled students who are unable to meet immediate, essential expenses because of temporary hardship related to an unexpected situation. Gifts to South CARES on Giving Day will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $688.
USA National Alumni Association - $100,000 match
Since 1974 the South Alabama National Alumni Association has connected USA alumni to the University and each other. Now, the newly-opened MacQueen Alumni Center offers our more than 84,000 alumni a permanent home on campus. On February 14, for 24-hours only, all gifts to the National Alumni Association will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000.
