USA By the Bay- Around the World in 60 Minutes
The next USA by the Bay Speaker Series event will be held Thursday, Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. at the USA Baldwin County Campus in Fairhope. The talk titled "Around the World in 60 Minutes" will be presented by Dr. Richard W. Carter, associate vice president for global engagement at the University of South Alabama. The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and registration is required.
Featured guests will include Dr. Bri Ard, executive director of global engagement, and Maya De Andrade, executive director of outreach and professional development. The team will share a glimpse of the international landscape and South's world-wide reach through global engagement, which not only benefits the University, but also has an impact within our local communities on the Gulf Coast.
Dr. Carter has the administrative responsibility of facilitating and coordinating the University's priority of global engagement and serves as the senior international officer for the institution. Carter's experience in leading international programs, along with the creation of Global USA, has had a significant impact in positioning the University of South Alabama as a world-renowned academic institution of higher education with students from 60 different countries currently enrolled in classes. Also, the University now has more than 300 students studying abroad, the most in South's history. The addition of the Global USA as a division has substantially enhanced the experiences of international students who come to the University while staff continue to create educational partnerships with universities around the world.
Carter earned a bachelor's degree in industrial education, master's degree in industrial technology, and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration. He has worked more than 37 years in higher education. Carter started his career at the University of South Alabama as the dean of the School of Continuing Education and Special Programs. With the creation of Global USA, he moved into his current position as associate vice president. Prior to working at South, Carter served as a university administrator, university professor, public-school teacher and coach.
USA by the Bay will end just prior to the City of Fairhope's Lighting of the Trees. Guests will be able to attend both events. The USA Baldwin County Campus is located in downtown Fairhope and within walking distance of the city's celebration. The trees will light up at precisely 6 p.m.
