The Community-Based Learning Student Fellows program is an exciting opportunity for students to engage in the community through the lens of their academic discipline, to address community needs, and to be creative about how to connect these needs to social change. Since launching in Spring 2025, fellows have engaged in a variety of projects to help initiate community change, to collaborate with community partners, and to improve or expand the services they provide.
The cohort’s projects cover a span of topics and community partners and the model allows for them to learn from each other and to connect their efforts to the University's Jesuit and Catholic mission. Our CBL student fellows are currently working with Friends of the Poor and Catherine McAuley Center, the Scranton Area Community Foundation and the NEPA Animal Welfare Collective, Marywood University's S.T.A.R.S. (Students Together Achieving Remarkable Success) Program, Maternal and Family Health Services and the Edward R. Leahy Jr. Clinic for the Uninsured, and The University of Scranton Early Learning Center, and English Language Learning (ELL) Instructors in Scranton.
