Each year since 1996, 12-18 political science students get the opportunity to accompany Dr. Gretchen Van Dyke to the European Union (EU) Simulation in Washington, D.C. It's a three-day intercollegiate experiential learning exercise that allows college sophomores, juniors, and seniors to experience the complex and dynamic institutions and policy-making process of today’s EU and understand more fully current issues challenging European integration.
Our students debate proposed legislation from the perspective of an EU member state. Students are challenged to sharpen their rhetoric, and deploy strategy, all while thinking and speaking as their alter ego would. This demanding Political Science seminar, resembling a graduate-level course, requires substantial faculty effort to prepare students for the complex dynamics of the European Union. Former students attest to the lasting impact of the simulation, recalling debates on pressing EU issues years later.
Your support helps to offset the program costs and ensures the continuation of this invaluable educational experience for future leaders, enabling their participation regardless of any financial constraints.
