A Message from CAS Dean Carolyn M. Barry:
Among the myriad of tremendous opportunities we provide our students, I fervently believe that one of the many distinguishing characteristics of our CAS students’ education is to engage in research with our stellar faculty, even as a first-year student.
In Fall 2023, we established the CAS Student Research Fund to support undergraduate students with research supplies and travel expenses for conferences where they present their work. I’m delighted to report that students across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences have already benefited from this important initiative.
As enthusiasm for research continues to grow, so too has the need. Over the past academic year, funding requests exceeded $50,000 and we were able to provide $10,000 in support.
I invite you to help us close this gap and expand opportunities for students to ask big questions that interest them, carry out a project, and share those scholarly findings in a professional setting that helps them to prepare for life beyond our hallowed Scranton halls.
Please consider joining my 5.06 Day of Giving Challenge. Together, we can ensure that today’s CAS students become tomorrow’s ethical leaders.
