As many of you know, in May 2023, my world changed forever when I lost the love of my life, TJ Sullivan, who passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at just 47 years old. Our family has been overwhelmed by the love and support we’ve received from so many of you. For that, I am eternally grateful
Our story began at The University of Scranton in the fall of 1993. From the moment I met TJ, I knew he was someone special: the life of the party, a force field of positive energy and a friend to all. It was not just the beginning of a beautiful life for TJ and I, but also the foundation of countless lifelong friendships.
During his time at Scranton, TJ quickly got involved in many things. Whether serving as an orientation aide, playing rugby and wrestling, contributing to student council and campus ministry, or spinning records as a DJ for the University’s radio station, he poured himself into everything he did. His energy, passion, and love for the Scranton community were unmatched, and he enjoyed every minute of it.
As proud graduates of the Class of 1997, TJ and I carried those values with us throughout our lives. His charisma and work ethic led to a thriving career in media and sales, but he always found time to give back. As a member of the University’s President's Business Council, he guided students, helped graduates build their networks and shared his expertise generously.
Several years ago, TJ and I established a scholarship to give back to the University we loved so much, a place that gave us so many opportunities. Now, in his memory, I hope to build upon that legacy. The TJ Sullivan Memorial Scholarship will support University of Scranton students who have lost a parent and are in financial need. As someone walking this path alongside our four children, I know how challenging it is to move forward in the face of loss. My hope is that this scholarship will help students overcome life’s obstacles, dream big, and live fully, just as TJ did every single day.
This 5.06, I invite you to join me in honoring TJ’s incredible legacy. Together, we can keep his light shining brightly for future generations of Scranton students.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity and support.
Maura Sullivan ‘97
