About

No 5.06 video from us this year because we are smack in the middle of concert season and commencement preparation right now, but...

WE ARE STILL BEGGING FOR YOUR MONEY ANYWAY TO BUY A HARP!!

Almost four decades after moving in to what was at the time a ramshackle old building (some of you elders will remember that move, with three month old Maggie joining us in the U-Haul – she’s now 37 and has her own three month old!) we now have a terrific musical home which continues to undergo improvements to serve our student ensembles and guest artists rehearsals and performances. The concert hall is nearly fully equipped with our rebuilt Austin Opus 301 Symphonic Organ, stage and floor rebuilt donated Steinways, donated and rebuilt harpsichord, and gorgeous new Adams marimba all in residence, and we are starting a fund to ensure their maintenance for the future (more on that in another campaign!)

One thing we still need to have our concert hall fully equipped as far as instruments go is a harp – it is much less of an expense to bring in a harpist than it is to have to bring in a harpist AND their harp, or to rent a harp for their use. Right now we often have to avoid ensemble literature that is scored for harp (not cost effective to bring a harp and its player in for one piece on a concert), or make sometimes creepy compromises and play the harp parts on an electric piano (could work on something like Jurassic Park, not on too much else.) AND we have students interested in learning to play one, which would mean that for minimal harp parts within full ensemble arrangements (like the harp parts in the Carmen Dragon “America The Beautiful”) we might have a kid able to learn them and use it every concert!

Please donate what you can to help make this happen, whether it’s $5.06 or $5006 or anything and everything in between (or more if you’re really rich!) Direct your harp donations to the Performance Music Fund, or donate to any of the other options that float your boat – no matter the size or direction of your donation to Performance Music, we appreciate it very much!

Cheers!
