Dr. Jack Beidler served as a professor at Scranton for more than 50 years. He joined the faculty in 1964, teaching in mathematics as well as the Computing Sciences Department, which he co-founded in 1970 with support from the National Science Foundation for the purchase of equipment, making Scranton one of the first Jesuit computer science programs in the country. He was interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences on a few occasions, and has, in some manner, contributed to the success of 1200+ alumni. At the time of his retirement, he was the longest-tenured professor.
After Dr. Beidler's passing in December 2021, his children, Ann Beidler Nicastro '85, John Beidler '87, Andrew Beidler '89 and Kate Beidler Reager '00, decided to endow a scholarship in his memory that will aid incoming Computer Science majors.
