Scholarship donors have an impact. In fall 2025, 93% of enrolled students benefited from financial assistance from USD Law; the generosity of alumni and donors made it possible for the law school to meet this need. Meaningfully, 116 student scholarships were funded entirely by generous alumni, family, and friends of USD.
Recent changes to federal graduate financial aid have drastically altered student funding, making your support of law student scholarships more crucial today than ever. The Grad PLUS loan program has been eliminated, and federal law student loans are being capped at $50,000 annually. Previously, law students in San Diego could borrow up to the full cost of tuition plus living expenses. Under the new cap, $50,000 per year may not fully meet the needs of both tuition and living costs for a full-time student.
Because federal cuts took effect on July 1, 2026, USD Law is doubling efforts to close the gap in scholarship funding.
