The Department of Mathematics honors the legacy of Shoula Shamoun, an alumna, dedicated tutor and cherished member of the USD and Chaldean communities, through the annual Shoula Shamoun Award for Outstanding Tutoring. Each spring, this award recognizes an exceptional undergraduate tutor in the Mathematics Learning Center (MLC), where students receive peer-to-peer academic support that strengthens learning and builds confidence.
Shoula’s life was filled with service, resilience, and generosity. As a student and long-time tutor, she gave her time selflessly to help others succeed, leaving a lasting mark on our community.
Our goal is to endow the Shoula Shamoun Award to ensure it will continue to honor her memory and provide a meaningful cash prize to future recipients.
