At the Department of Languages, Literatures, & Cultures (LLC), students gain more than academic knowledge: they develop the ability to understand diverse cultures, think critically, communicate across differences, and engage the world with empathy and imagination. Through literature, the visual arts, film, and popular media, students in our seven programs — Arabic Studies, Chinese Studies, French, German Studies, Italian Studies, Japanese, and Russian Studies — explore the social, cultural, and ethical issues that define our global age. These experiences prepare them for professional success, but they also foster something just as important: personal growth, deeper human connection, and a lifelong sense of curiosity and purpose.
With your support, we can enrich our students’ experience in lasting ways: by bringing guest speakers and artists to campus, creating vibrant cultural events, supporting co-curricular programming, expanding hands-on learning opportunities, and building spaces where students can encounter new languages, perspectives, and ways of being in the world. Gifts to LLC help our students broaden their horizons, discover their own potential, and become thoughtful, compassionate citizens ready to contribute meaningfully to their communities and beyond.
Thank you for believing in the power of languages, cultures, and human connection, and for helping our students discover the many ways they can contribute meaningfully to the world.
