The Department of Latin American, Latino, & Iberian Studies (LALIS) is a diverse community that treats the study of language, literature, and culture as integral to understanding the human experience. Our interdisciplinary program highlights the cultural and linguistic diversity of the Iberian Peninsula and the Americas, including varieties of Spanglish in the United States. We teach students languages, literatures, linguistics, film, theater, performance, translation, cultural, business, health, and Latino studies. Many of our courses promote community-based learning, where our students work directly with community partners like medical clinics, legal offices, and public schools.
We prepare students to engage in purposeful lives by fostering intellectual curiosity and integrity, cross-cultural awareness, and linguistic empathy. LALIS is committed to empowering students to combat racial and social inequities.
Your donation will support educational opportunities, including experiential learning events, community-based learning projects, campus visits from experts and artists, and professional development for students. Your support helps students craft lives of purpose in today’s world.
