The University of Richmond is the only top-ranked liberal arts colleges in the country with a department dedicated entirely to the study and practice of journalism. As a central node of the School of Arts and Sciences, the Journalism Department is deeply embedded in the social sciences and humanities. The department is a close-knit, thriving group of scholars, practitioners and students, all driven by the strong belief that the best journalism education is experienced in the liberal arts. The Department of Journalism nurtures students’ curiosity, encouraging them to investigate larger political and societal issues while improving their research, writing, and critical thinking skills. Our program provides students with the tools they will need to become successful storytellers — no matter what the medium, including traditional print and broadcast outlets. Many of our graduates find jobs in the news media. Two of our recent graduates have won Pulitzer Prizes.
Funds from Giving Day help students go to conferences, underwrite student-led research and procure resources to increase learning and enhance a better experience at UR.
