Employers value graduates of the Robins School’s Accounting program because of their knowledge, their ability to adapt to new situations and circumstances, and their professionalism reflecting the Department’s mission of combining superior accounting instruction and intellectual inquiry within a liberal arts environment.
Fulfilling the Accounting Department’s mission means preparing our students to meet the challenges facing the accounting profession by providing a breadth of experiential opportunities to complement rigorous classroom instruction. Examples of these opportunities include participating in the Volunteer Income Tax (VITA) program at three distinct levels: tax preparers, quality control reviewers, or co-site coordinators and participating in field trips, such as visiting alumni who currently work in the Washington DC offices of the SEC and the FBI.
Another important initiative is developing courses that include a short-term study abroad experience. The image above captures students in Professor van der Laan Smith’s Business Sustainability Reporting and Analysis course. The course includes a field trip to Cape Town South Africa, an early adopter of ESG disclosure requirements and a leader in water conservation.
The Department wants to continue to offer our students these opportunities. Please consider supporting these initiatives by contributing to a fund to cover the students’ travel costs, earmarking your donation accordingly. Thank you.
