Gifts to Summer Field Course in Geology contribute to...
Summer Field Course (GLY 470) has been the capstone course of the Earth and Ocean Science's Geology program for more than 50 years, taking students to world-class geological sites like the Sierra Nevada of eastern California. In the field, students refine skills developed in their geology coursework, including geological mapping, data collection, problem solving, and scientific communication, all while gaining the confidence and independence needed to start their careers. Despite these positives, the course is at risk of elimination from the curriculum due to increasingly tight budgets.
We aim to raise $6,000 to remove financial barriers for students and allow us to continue to offer this critical course within the Geology curriculum. The course provides students with unparalleled hands-on learning, professional readiness, and personal growth. The course also helps with Earth and Ocean Science student recruitment and its reputation among geology programs. Donations will ensure that UNCW geology students will continue to have this invaluable experience!
We have raised over $3,000, which is half of our goal of $6,000! We sincerely thank everyone for their incredibly generous donations to our TEALstarter fund. These dollars absolutely help in our effort to offer Field Course next summer. Completion of our donation goal will ensure that Field Course remains in the geology curriculum.
