Our project aims to help deepen our exploration and understanding of mental health practices within the rich cultural landscapes of India while engaging in a 12-day study abroad program. This initiative addresses the need for global perspectives in the health professions, providing students with firsthand experience of diverse practices and approaches. By engaging with Indian social work students and faculty at St. Joseph’s University in Bengaluru, participating in classes, and presenting at an annual mental health seminar, students will gain invaluable insights into global mental health issues and solutions.
We aim to raise $3,000 for the students leading our TEALstarter project, to cover some of the travel, accommodations, and other program expenses. The funds will ensure that more students can fully engage in the program without financial barriers, allowing for a diverse group of students to benefit from this transformative experience.
We officially launched on November 6, and we’re already grateful for the $33 we raised on that first day!
While that might not sound like much, thanks to the India-US exchange rate (around ₹83 to $1), that’s ₹2,739 in local currency. So even small contributions go a long way! So, what can we cover with 2,739 rupees?
- Community agency fees for six students during site visits in India
- A portion of local guide tips in Agra and Delhi
- Or entrance to Mysore Palace for six students!
But we’ve got bigger goals ahead. Here are just a few of the major expenses we’re still working to fund:
Student lodging in Delhi – ₹106,240 (~$1,280)
Student airfare from Bangalore to Delhi – ₹109,560 (~$1,320)
Tour buses for Agra and Delhi – ₹70,550 (~$850)
Every gift helps us move closer to our goal of $250 per student, supporting this transformative learning experience abroad.
