About 🦅

The UNCW Library fosters and promotes student success, faculty scholarship, and community engagement, providing information resources, learner- and scholar-centered services, and community programming for the campus and greater Southeast North Carolina community in a welcoming and inclusive environment. We aspire to be the intellectual heart of the campus and community.

By designating your gift to the UNCW Library during Seahawks Give, you provide critical support for priority resources, services and programs.

Your gift supports funding for:

  • Materials and technology for students to freely check out and use
  • Research scholarships to support student research and travel
  • Public programming, such as author talks, guest speakers and traveling exhibits
  • Digitization of local collections for campus and community use
  • Specialized software for student researchers
  • Equipment for our MakerStudio, used for fabrication (3-D printing, laser cutting) and digital production (podcasting or video production)
  • Library resources (books, databases, journals, media)

    Updates 🚨
Your gift can support student research - Meet the 2026 Anne Pemberton Student Research and Creativity Award Winner

James Covial, a musician and senior digital arts major, was recently awarded this year’s Anne Pemberton Research and Creativity Award of $500 to pursue his project, DreamLounge. DreamLounge is a VR music experience that places users inside beautiful virtual environments to help them slow down, focus, and truly listen to music in a way that creates a deeper connection to the sound.

“I am so humbled and grateful for this scholarship. I am so thankful for the staff in the makerspace giving me the opportunity and platform to showcase this demo. This started off as an idea with no clue if it was even possible. Through the resources at the library, I was able to turn that dream into a reality. None of my research would've been possible without the incredible support from the UNCW library. I plan to continue building DreamLounge until it is ready to be released to the public and on the Steam Marketplace. The long-term dream is continuing to blend the beautiful experience of music with the infinite possibilities of virtual worlds.”

Your gift can support student supplies and technology in the library’s MakerStudio

“The Makerspace has provided some really amazing craft opportunities. Having access to quality tools and materials has made creativity accessible at UNCW!”

    - Micah Gesualdi ‘29

“I love the MakerStudio workshops! I come almost every week and it’s so good to do something creative that is not school work. It is really great when they have supplies for things like stamps and leatherworking that I could not do at home. One of my favorite activities on campus is going to these workshops.”

You gift can support annual student programming

The UNCW Library hosts an annual film competition where any student can sign up to participate! They give each team 48 hours to film and edit their submissions before hosting a screening on campus. This program allows students across all colleges to showcase their skills while learning about the different tools the UNCW Library has to offer (green screens, podcast studio, editing software, camera equipment, etc.).

"Winning the 2025 Fall 48 film competition was a huge moment for me as a filmmaker as it gave me more confidence to believe in myself. The library provides a space where creativity and storytelling are possible, opportunities like this allow me to turn ideas into real projects."

    -  Mari Blacknall '30, Film Studies

The UNCW library makes it easy for us as students to flourish creatively in such a cool way.  The library’s 48-hour film challenge is a prime example of the opportunities that become open to us as scholars because of this resource.  Being able to rent equipment for free, tackle challenges in a fun way, and connect with people you relate to is such a rare and special opportunity that the library grants us as seahawks!
