The Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography can benefit tremendously from community generosity. We have a passion to train students in physics, which is one of the oldest and most rigorous disciplines in academia. The obstacles we face are trying to discover and explain natureβs rules and help students solve difficult problems. Any act of giving to our department helps us release another critical thinker into society, one who is ready to tackle the most pressing challenges of our time.
Dr. Dylan McNamara
Professor, Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography
The Department of Environmental Sciences is focused on solving 21st century environmental challenges including climate change, environmental injustice, and overpopulation of humans and their negative effects on the environment. We embed our research into our courses to provide students with modern-day environmental problems and the management solutions we have researched to tackle the complex issues we are facing today. EVS faculty works closely with students both in and out of the classroom, building strong relationships as they teach and guide them. Students also have a wide variety of opportunities with field-based classes, practica, honors projects, and directed individual studies. By supporting the department, donors can help provide essential resources for students, such as supplies and opportunities to present their research on a global stage. These opportunities not only enhance the students' educational experience but also contribute to the broader effort to find solutions to environmental challenges.
Dr. Rachael Urbanek
Professor and Chair, Department of Environmental Sciences
I believe that giving in some form, whether time, talent, or monies, is critical for the community that we live in. As Winston Churchill said, βWe make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.β It may not be much, but every kind word, every time we advocate for something important to the community, and when we provide support to our students or those less fortunate β that is very importantβ―
I believe Earth and Ocean Sciences is the true integrative science. We are at the center of important teaching, research, and service that is critical to our community as we strive to protect, and sustainability manage our natural, cultural, and economic resources here in southeastern NC. And we provide support to the content and messages of other sciences with our work in Geology, Climate, and Oceanography. As the saying goes, Geology Underlies it All. Our breadth of subject interests and output is amazing.

Our faculty are committed to providing hands-on research experiences that prepare our students for meaningful careers addressing critical societal challenges. Our capacity to do so depends on your support. When you give back to Psychology, you're investing in people who will improve mental health services in our communities. New generations of Psychology Seahawks depend on us!
Dr. Julian Keith
Professor, Department of Psychology
There is so much excitement surrounding the engineering programs at UNCW and we need your support to help us engineer the extraordinary! We have a professor in Intelligent Systems Engineering developing automated robotic systems to assist surgeons with intricate soft-tissue procedures and our Coastal Engineering faculty are leading efforts to coordinate a regional sand distribution strategy to increase the overall coastal resilience of our area. Our Software Engineers specialize in human-centered computing and are developing educational games to train the STEM professionals of tomorrow. Your gift helps support UNCW engineering students and faculty solve problems that impact our community. We so appreciate any and every contribution.
Dr. Amy Craig Reamer, Ph.D.
Director of Engineering
Associate Professor of Practice, Department of Computer Science
