The Coastal Society

About the Project

The Coastal Society at UNC Wilmington connects students with coastal professionals, organizations and the broader coastal community. Through career development, networking, conferences and hands-on stewardship, we help students build relationships, explore career paths and put classroom knowledge into practice.

A cornerstone of our programming is the M.A.D. Coastal Career Development Program, where students learn directly from professionals about coastal careers and the transition into the workforce. These connections benefit both sides: students gain guidance and professional exposure, while employers get a first look at emerging talent and meet potential future hires.

Our members also give back through beach cleanups, marsh restoration, and community events, gaining practical experience alongside organizations addressing coastal issues in our region.

Our fundraising goal is $1,000. Funds raised through TEALstarter will help support networking and social events, student conference participation, educational and outreach materials, supplies for hands-on activities and volunteer recognition. By helping cover these costs, your gift makes it easier for more students to participate.
