Here's what Mike I. '24 has to say about how the AVID Scholarship changed his life:
"Never in my life did I think I was gonna go to college. I still remember conversations with my Mom over the dinner table about affording university. I grew up poor, and I knew what it was like to have money hung over your head, to feel guilty for missing the bus and spending mom’s gas money. Every time college was brought up, I said the same thing. Not if it meant going into debt. [Mom] always made me promise though, that if I was able to get in on scholarship, that I’d have to go. Of course I said I would. I never imagined it actually happening. Thank you not only for making my life better, but also helping my Mom make her dreams come true, which is to have her son do what she was never able to do. I hope I can continue to make use of my blessings and make my Mom and family proud."
