For more than 30 years, the Montana Native News Honors Project has helped UM journalism students tell Native stories from across Montana.

Indigenous voices and perspectives are often missing from mainstream news coverage. Through the Montana Native News Honors Project, students learn to report on Native stories with cultural understanding, care and respect.

Each year, our students travel across Montana and work with tribal nations. They research, photograph, write and produce in-depth stories. Their work highlights the people, traditions, challenges and successes that shape Indigenous life.
