Project Healthy Schools (PHS) is a school-based health education program founded by the University of Michigan in 2004. Over the past 21 years, we have partnered with 175 schools, educated 171,500 students, and impacted 58 counties across the state of Michigan to reduce childhood obesity and improve cardiovascular health among middle school students.
Project Healthy Schools supports our partner schools by providing a "5 Steps to School Wellness" model where we 1) support them in creating a school wellness team, 2) assess their school wellness culture, 3) create a school wellness improvement plan where S.M.A.R.T. (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely) wellness goals and events are constructed to impact the entire school, 4) implement an evidence-based health curriculum that encompasses 10 hands-on lessons, and 5) measure their success. Student and staff wellness are supported and encouraged equally through teaching and empowering healthy habits and decision-making. Please support our mission to foster a bright healthy future for our state's youth.
