Help us fund next year’s season of shows!
Every year, Basement Arts produces around 6 full-length productions and many more one-night-only shows in our LateNight Series, all of which are directed, designed, performed, and managed by students. By donating, you will give our members the means to create higher quality shows that can spend more on publicity costs and production costs, including the creation and purchasing of sets, props, costumes, and so on. With your funding, our shows will reach more people without compromising on our creative visions for the shows because of budget limitations.
All of our shows are also completely free to attend for all audience members, from students to members of our local communities. For the sake of the community, we make our art financially accessible. Of course, that means we do not receive funding from ticket sales — your donation will be invaluable to us, then, so we can continue to improve our shows’ budgets while maintaining our commitment to free theater.
About our Organization
Basement Arts is student-run theatre organization that has given the University of Michigan and the Ann Arbor community FREE theatre for over 20 years! From classic dramas to contemporary farces, original musicals and late night events, there's something for everyone at Basement Arts.
Called “Ann Arbor’s best kept secret” by the Ann Arbor News, Basement Arts produces a different show almost every weekend of the school year (about 5-8 shows a year). Basement Arts has been a training ground for hundreds of aspiring actors, writers, directors, and designers. Our alum include Lucy Liu (Ally McBeal), Matt Letscher (Mask of Zorro), Jessica Cauffiel (Legally Blonde), Miriam Shor (Hedwig and the Angry Inch), and Tony Nominee Ceilia Keenan-Bolger (The Putnam County Spelling Bee).
All shows are directed, designed, and performed by students, allowing them to experiment and explore all aspects of theatre. Basement Arts continues to be a playground for artists, and the premiere venue for diverse and adventurous productions.
