About

Support the Next Generation of Scholars at ISR

Throughout more than seven decades of groundbreaking research, the Institute for Social Research (ISR) has led the way for progress as the world's largest academic social science survey and research organization. ISR is committed to building up the next generation of social scientists. The Next Generation Initiative provides postbaccs, graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, and early career faculty financial support and research opportunities at a make-or-break time in their careers. Over the last 20 years, ISR has trained and supported over 600 pioneering scholars, making a profound impact on their research and careers. With your support, the Next Generation Fund will help ISR continue to be a pillar in raising up scholars at the University of Michigan.

Why ISR?

ISR serves as a hub for innovative data linking initiatives, allowing researchers to combine and compare disparate types of data to form a holistic view of social issues and phenomena. As we pioneer these complex and enlightening research methods, there is significant opportunity to make unprecedented strides in service of the public good.

As the world's largest academic social science survey and research organization, our scientific mission is threefold:

  1. To plan and conduct rigorous social science research
  2. To disseminate the findings of this research
  3. To train future generations of social scientists

In today’s increasingly interconnected world, discoveries are most likely to occur on the boundaries between academic disciplines. As a result, ISR’s interdisciplinary approach to social research is more important than ever in shaping the understanding of scholars, informing the decisions of leaders in the public and private sectors, and improving the lives of individuals and communities across the globe.

Please note: Contributions added to an existing endowed fund, and distributions from the Fund will be made in accordance with the University’s then existing endowment distribution policy and used and administered as provided in the documents establishing the Fund.
