About

UMass Boston’s Women Beacons in the Workplace (WBITW) is transforming the professional journeys of female students and alumnae, and with your support, it can continue to grow.

At the heart of the program is a dynamic mentorship model that brings together approximately 40 participants each year for group mentoring, skill-building, and community. Now in its eighth session, and led by dedicated alumnae co-chairs Nurcin Celebi '16 G'19 and Elimercy Martinez '12, WBITW unites professionals from all backgrounds and and all industries to guide emerging talent as they step into their careers with confidence. The program also hosts guest speakers and workshops aimed at career growth.
Past participants consistently share that WBITW boosted their confidence, encouraged them to pursue opportunities they once thought were out of reach, and helped them secure jobs and internships, negotiate salaries, advocate for raises, and navigate challenging workplace situations. Mentees report feeling significantly more prepared for success, with 100% of survey respondents saying the program positioned them better for their careers.

A gift to this program will allow us to:

  • Keep this program free for all participants,
  • Expand program offerings and welcome more participants, increasing the program’s reach and impact,
  • Bring in guest speakers and authors who require honoraria,
  • Host low or no-cost workshops and networking events with meals and supplies,
  • Provide meaningful in-person opportunities for one-on-one mentoring,
  • Continue to offer the programs without gaps due to limited funding.

These enhancements will also strengthen the program’s infrastructure, making it more competitive for grants and other external funding opportunities in the future.
Make a gift today to champion mentorship, equity, and leadership for UMass Boston’s women.
