Cyrus Pavilion Theatre

Help Continue to Transform “the Pav”!

Originally constructed in 1908, the Pavilion Theatre was first used as a livestock judging arena. At the end of the 1970s, it was converted into a theatre-in-the-round, and in the early 1990s was named the Al Cyrus Pavilion after a beloved theatre professor, Edgar Allan (“Al”) Cyrus. It was, and still is, an essential part of theatre at UMaine.

After 45 years, the seats in the Pav will be replaced! Thanks to a generous donation from Hussey Seating and the work of many campus partners, by the start of the fall semester, the Pav will be outfitted with new seats! The current seats were acquired used from Penobscot Theatre Company, installed in late-90s or early-2000s and are estimated to be 55-60 years old.

Now that the seats are finally becoming a reality, the Cyrus Pavilion Theatre Fund will raise money to assist with additional renovations of the Pav. There are many more opportunities for improvement in the Pav and all funds donated will help with future projects. Please join us with a gift on the Maine Day of Giving!

Although the Pav was long associated with the student group, the Maine Masque, it is now used annually for mainstage productions and is an important tool in teaching our theatre majors “old school” technical skills that will help them in their careers. We look forward to keeping this vital theatre space going for years to come.
