About us

Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center (KSCIRC) mission is to develop successful spinal cord repair strategies in the laboratory that can be taken to the clinic in a timely and responsible fashion. KSCIRC’s vision is to be the world leader in spinal cord injury research creating ground-breaking discoveries that transforms lives of patients with spinal cord injury. We are committed to training the next generation of scientists and physician scientists dedicated to SCI research. This vision includes maintaining and enhancing our reputation as the world leader in neuromodulation based restorative therapies for adult and pediatric SCI. KSCIRC is the first to complete 50th epidural stimulation implant, one of the most promising therapies for spinal cord injury. KSCIRC has unwavering commitment to excellence in diagnosing and treating SCI using innovative treatments in a caring, patient-centered environment.

Philanthropic support like yours can be used to develop pipelines of high school, college and medical students to become SCI neuroscientists, to improve diversity by training more minorities and socioeconomically disadvantaged trainees in SCI neuroscience, help attract and retain the best SCI experts in the nation, provide seed funding and ‘proof of concept’ for early-stage research that may be eligible for government funding in the future, help expand laboratory facilities and purchase needed equipment, help translate discoveries into medical devices and therapies through effective partnership with University of Louisville School of Engineering for translation of discoveries into patents and commercialization, help enhance environment for innovative clinical trials, train the next generation of researchers through graduate assistantships and fellowships, and expand community outreach to individuals with spinal cord injury.
