Build community amongst LGBTQIA2S+ Students, Support Quench Programming
Support the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center in building community amongst LGBTQIA+ identified students by supporting Quench programming. Quench is a “Lunch on Us” program that focuses on building community, student success and social justice education amongst LGBTQIA+ identified students at the University of Illinois. Quench happens on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Mondays of every month from 12 – 1 pm in the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center or other Cultural houses on campus.
In the Fall 2023 Campus Climate Survey 27% of undergraduates and 25% of graduate students identified within the LGBQA+ community. LGBTQIA+ students often struggle to find community on college campuses, with 69% of LGBQA+ undergraduates agreeing they felt like they belonged at Illinois.
Through our Quench programming we have successfully increased LGBTQIA+ students’ sense of community. 97% of students who attend Quench and identify within the LGBTQIA+ community feel like they belong at Illinois (Fall 2024).
Another learning outcome of Quench programming is to increase students’ knowledge and awareness of social justice topics. 88% of students who attend Quench and identify within the LGBTQIA+ community agreed that they are more aware of cultural/diversity/social justice topics.
